Ambassadors InScience

Nobel prize winner Chemistry 2016 Ben Feringa will be ambassador of InScience Dutch International Science Film Festival. Also Robbert Dijkgraaf (Director Institute for Advanced Studies), Rob van Hattum (Chief Science Officer NEMO), Daniel Dennett (Cognitive scientist and philosopher), José van Dijck (Royal Dutch Academy of Arts and Sciences), Hoyte van Hoytema (Cinematographer) and Martin Stratmann (Max Planck Society), are ambassador of this third edition of the festival.

Daniel Dennett (1942) is an American philosopher and cognitive scientist whose research centers on the philosophy of mind, philosophy of science and philosophy of biology.

José van Dijck (1960) is professor of Comparative Media Studies at the University of Amsterdam is the president of the Royal Dutch Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Robbert Dijkgraaf (1960) is Director of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Princeton, USA. His research focuses on the interface between mathematics and particle physics. Dijkgraaf is Past President of the Royal Dutch Academy of Arts and Sciences (2008 – 2012). He is a passionate advocate of science and the arts. With his frequent appearances on television and a monthly column in NRC Handelsblad, he brought complex academic research to a broad audience.

Ben Feringa (1951) has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2016. Feringa has been professor of Organic Chemistry since 1988. He is one of the best scientists of our time, both within the Netherlands and worldwide. His research performance is so exceptional that he is generally regarded as one of the world’s most creative and productive chemists. He has achieved breakthroughs in various fields of chemistry, including organic synthesis, catalysis, supramolecular chemistry and nanotechnology.

Rob van Hattum (1955) is Chief Science Officer at Science Centre NEMO and science editor at VPRO. For years he presented the National Science Quiz on national television. He makes some controversial TV-documentaries for Tegenlicht. In 2012 he won the Eurekaprijs for science communication.

Hoyte van Hoytema (1971) is a Dutch-Swedish cinematographer known from his high-profile work include Her, Interstellar and the James Bond Spectre.

Martin Stratmann (1954) is president of the Max Planck Society for the term 2014 – 2020. Stratmann is a chemist and is a fellow of the Electrochemical Society and a member of Acatech and the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences.
